Check Twitter, Facebook permissions
To access a lot of Internet sites, games and apps, we need to allow them some access to our Facebook and Twitter accounts.
Sometimes, even though we don't use those apps or games any more, they still have access to our accounts. Maybe now that the holidays are over, it is time to check your settings and see where you stand with your permissions.
On Facebook, go to "privacy settings" then click on "edit settings" for "apps, games and websites" and make sure all of the apps and such you have approved are ones that you want to have access to your account.
If you are not sure or you see an app, website or game you don't use any more, just remove it. If you change your mind, you can always allow the permissions again later.
On Twitter, go to your settings then click "applications" and see what you have there. Again, remove the apps you do not want to have access to your account.
If you have an iPhone, removing an app on Twitter is a little trickier. You must go the applications and click on "learn how to revoke an iOS app" next to the one you want to remove and follow the directions there.
Pinteresting!
Pinterest is like a virtual bulletin board for things that interest you.
But the things you share are things you find on the Internet, like recipes, photos of the new haircut you'd like to try or the shoes you think your daughter might like. You can "pin" practically anything that "interests" you. Put all of your favorite things together in one place and look through what other people pin.
Pinterest is gaining interest rapidly, and a number of my friends of all ages are already using it and loving it.
But, as one of my friends pointed out, it is mostly women using it right now. Except for topics like automobiles and technology, the female gender has taken over the site.
Because Pinterest is so new, you need an invitation to join. You can request one directly from the Pinterest site, http://pinterest.com, or contact me and I will send you an invitation to join me.
Social media group
If you are interested in learning more about social media - Facebook, Twitter, and so on - please feel free to join any of our monthly meetings.
All levels of experience are welcome.
We have a Facebook group set up called "Social Media Open Sessions" where you can get information about upcoming meetings or ask questions in between group meetings.
It is an open group, so all you have to do is join. The link to the group is http://www.facebook.com/groups/140481182709040/.
Our next in-person meeting will be at 7 p.m. Jan. 24 at T-Bone's Records and Cafe on Hardy Street. I look forward to seeing some new faces.
